I can make a daguerreotype from just about any source image you have. High resolution color digital files are the best. This is a great way to have a real daguerreotype portrait of yourself or your loved ones without the need for an expensive portrait sitting.

All daguerreotypes ship with a custom-made brass mat, please specify the window shape when ordering. All of my daguerreotypes are glazed with anti-reflective, ultra-clear museum glass. The image is housed in a case wrapped in luxurious and soft black lambskin leather and held closed with a brass clasp. Other materials including leather alternatives are available.

Personal Instruction - $800.00

I will show you how to make Becquerel-process Daguerreotypes in my workshop in Durham, NC USA. This is a one-on-one two-day session.

Tuition includes two full days of instruction and materials so that you can go home with two finished 4x5" Daguerreotypes for framing with basic paper mats. If you have a 4x5 POSITIVE transparency or digital file that you're fond of, you can bring it so that you can make a contact-print (the lower the contrast the better).

You're welcome to use my 8x10 camera and lenses or you can, of course, bring your own. If you shoot with a 4x5 camera, we'll have to trim the plates down a little bit to fit inside your film holders. Let me know what you're bringing and I'll prepare the plates & glass beforehand. A view camera is encouraged but not required. Contact me for further information. The class curriculum roughly works like this:

• Plate 1 Development, equipment overview, chemistry preparation, and safety

• Plate 2 Sensitization
• Plate 2 in-camera or contact-print exposure
• Plate 2 development, case construction overview, leather information, finishing Q&A, etc.

• Plates 1&2 Gilding
• Drying and Sealing Plates 1&2

I am well versed in the creation and history of daguerreotypes. I bring the unique experience of actually having made the images to my presentation. I am extremely passionate about the subject and am excited to present to students of all ages about the history of this fascinating medium. The presentation is custom-tailored for your audience be they aspiring artists, collectors, preservation scientists, museum patrons, history students, bookbinders, etc. Examples are provided of contemporary work and historical pieces that may be passed around amongst the group.

For an additional fee I will demonstrate the becquerel daguerreotype process for your group. This demonstration is not nearly as in-depth as the workshops I lead. It is, instead, designed to show the steps involved from start to finish.

My general presentation runs approximately 60 minutes. I require a video projector capable of 1024x768 (minimum) and a sound system in the venue.
