Site Updates, Durham Art Walk, and my First News Article
4-4-2006
I have added a Links page to the site so that you can contact some of the companies that cater to my Daugerreotype needs and see some of the people and things that interest me.
I have been busy making cases for the past week and experimenting with silver electroplating. The electroplating did not go very well but (more…)
Bigger Daguerreotypes Coming Soon… and a New House
9-29-2005
I’ve been retooling the Daguerreotype lab to accomodate a change to my process. Instead of sticking with the deprecated classic plate sizes, I’ve decided to switch to 4×5 as a primary size. To accomodate the new size, I’ve had to update just about every piece of equipment that I use to make the Daguerreotypes: ring stand, sensitizing plate, plate holder, etc.
I have designed and ordered some (more…)

Um. Happy New Year… and Valentine’s Day. What can I say? I reformatted my laptop, lost my file server, sold my home computer, and converted an otherwise unused room of my house into an office since last I posted an update to the site. I’ve yet to do much work in said office but I am steadily buying accouterments and other furnishings.
I spent the weekend working in the darkroom on a commission. It’s coming along nicely but perfection takes time: 1 of 6 11×14’s done. I’m working on a partnership with another photographer to offer a digital-to-Daguerreotype service but there are many details yet to be worked out. If I can train some of my coworkers in my brand of magic, my boss(es) have promised to give me some more freedom with my schedule. The tune of this offer, hopefully, is one that will allow me a day off every other week wherein I will keep busy.

Mosquitos and websites
8/18/2004 1:18PM:
I’ve recently been distracted by long days at work so I haven’t updated the web site in a few days. I’m simultaneously teaching myself PHP and CSS so that I can bring this site into the twentyfirst century. The last time I wrote a website, was the essence of successful web design.
On Monday, my company sent me to Spring Island again. After finishing the job at 5:00, I decided that I’d take an hour or so and photograph more of that beautiful island. I hiked pretty deep into the forest and, afer being assaulted by mutant, coastal mosquitos, stumbled on a fantastic 100+ year old Palmetto tree that I photographed. Note to self: buy insect repellent.
It will probably be 3-4 weeks before there are new Spring Island shots on the site. I’m one of the old foagies that still uses emulsion instead of digital.

Site Update
8/13/2004 11:03PM:
I ran into my old friend Johnny at Ben & Jerry’s while celebrating my mom’s birthday. What a blast! Johnny told me that my old friend Walter is into photography; it’s a small world.
I’ve been working on the gallery today and I streamlined the menu at the top until I can finish the other parts of the site. For the time being, there’s a simple gallery that features very few of my photographs. I’m planning to add some more tonight.
