Georges Rousse: C’est ne Pas Photoshop

3-13-2006

Thank you to everybody that came by to check out my work at Through This Lens last week.

Now that the weather is clement around here, I’ll be spending a whole lot more time making new work. The sun is up longer, the color of the light is better for what I do, and I have more motivation than I do in the dreary winter months.

On Friday, I had the opportunity to meet a fascinating artist, Georges Rousse. The owner of the audio/video company I work for is an art collector and has managed to convince Monsieur Rousse to create one of his installations here in Durham, NC. Here this weekend on a scouting trip to pick locations to work in, M. Rousse will return for two to three weeks in August or September for the installation. Rousse’s art is the physical realization of geometric shapes and fascinating structures within interesting locations. To the casual observer of works such as Russelsheim, one might assume that the artist has overlayed a white circle on an otherwise uninteresting image. In fact, Rousse has painstakingly painted parts of the building to create the appearance of a circle from the perspective of his camera. Pivot one degree off axis and you will see a jagged oval. Check out some more examples and drop me a line to see how you can participate!
