Casemaking Skills. An Art of its Own
10-19-2005
I’ve been adding more new skills to my repetoire in order to make beautiful new cases and supplementals for the Daguerreotypes. I’m now going to be teaching myself Chasing and Repousse for decorating and shaping the brass mats. For the time being, I will be offering three styles of brass mats for my Daguerreotypes, three fabric choices for cases (Figured crimson patterned silk, Green ballistic nylon, and black velveteen), and various wood veneers (Wenge, Walnut cluster burl, Amboyna burl, and Thuya burl. Each case is handmade by me but the feature is always the Daguerreotype in the package!
I finally finished upfitting the lab to work with 4×5 inch plates and the results are looking great. I will be starting an offshoot series in an effort to visualize my thoughts on humanity’s 11,000 year legacy that I’m hoping to have ready by the start of November.
The new brass mats will be arriving soon in their raw state so I’ll be continuing to plug away with getting ready for the upcoming show.
