Bigger Daguerreotypes Coming Soon… and a New House

I’ve been retooling the Daguerreotype lab to accomodate a change to my process. Instead of sticking with the deprecated classic plate sizes, I’ve decided to switch to 4×5 as a primary size. To accomodate the new size, I’ve had to update just about every piece of equipment that I use to make the Daguerreotypes: ring stand, sensitizing plate, plate holder, etc.
I have designed and ordered some lovely cases for finished 4×5 plates. The package is going to be just lovely and will be the perfect compliment to the photographs held inside. The cases are really something special. I elected to design them to resemble classic period cases but I intend these cases to be of top-quality and works of art in themselves.
My wife and I have just bought ourselves a new house and we close in one month. Once we’ve closed and settled in to the new place, I’ll be updating this site with new scans of Daguerreotypes and working photographs of the new cases that I’ve designed.
