Durham’s Art Scene Rocks!

Since my last update, I’ve been hard at work at my new job. Simultaneously, I’ve jumped head-first into the art scene of Durham. I’ve met a handful of artists and civic leaders seeking to promote the arts in Durham and we’re working on putting together a small community darkroom. I honestly don’t think that there’s enough interest out there anymore in traditional black and white processing but I hope to be enlightened.
Now that I have my feet more-or-less beneath me, I’m looking for a studio space to set up shop. A 700 square foot apartment shared with my wife and son is far from the best place to be working with deadly chemicals! A friend at the office, I’ve discovered, is an accomplished woodworker. Since, as some of you may know, I’m an insurnace risk around power tools, I’ve enlisted his assistance in manufacturing a sensitizing box for me.
Inspiration comes every day. I’ve been forming my vision of the future with more and more detail and I’m about ready to start recording it in silver. I have a great deal of hope for humanity but I struggle to believe that the overall situation will ever reach my vision. If more people can expand their vision to a far greater horizon, say, a thousand-year plan for our civilization, changes can start being made to that end. Do the people alive today that are fortunate enough to be able to visualize the far-distant future care about something so distant? There are preventable atrocities coming in the immediate future yet few seem to care about and, therefore, I find it hard to believe that vision (the noun) still exists in this world.
